Williamson Commissioner and Plat Officer busted for violating subdivision ordinance

MARION, Ill. – One day after Marion taxpayer Lily Abbott filed a FOIA request with the Williamson County Tax Assessor’s office asking for copies of “all records, meetings, e-mails, notes, discussions, and reasons for the ignoring of subdivision requirements in the approving of the new ‘TESKE ESTATES’ subdivision for Ron Ellis,” officials scrambled to come up with a plan on how to handle the uncovered scandal, because of Abbott’s “pushback.”

Contamination in Marion from strip pits?

(This is the second of a multi-part series outlining what happened when a strip pit was drained by developer Doug Bradley in Marion…and was rightly reported to authorities. On July 2, the pit was being dumped into Marion’s storm sewers until Marion resident Lily Abbott reported it; then its rancid, murky waters were being drained into an adjacent strip pit…whose owners had no idea of how foul the waters were. Here, an explanation of the pit, as well as how local authorities reacted, are outlined.)

$250,000.00…..was it just a mistake? Commercial building NEVER assessed in 20 years by Williamson Co. Tax Assessor

WILLIAMSON CO. – Heads bumped, and file drawers slid furiously as tax clerks searched for answers in the Williamson County Tax Assessor’s Office at the new courthouse in Marion on January 5, 2016, when tax researcher Lily Abbott presented the latest finding in her relentless pursuit of exposing the fraud and corruption in Williamson County. Jeff Robinson, the Supervisor of Assessments, disappeared into his office and refused to come out or give any answers as to WHY an 8560 square foot commercial brick-faced building located on New Route 13, in plain sight in front of the airport, had NEVER been assessed, not even once, in the last 20 years.

Special prosecutor tapped in tax assessor’s case

WILLIAMSON CO. – The incident involving Williamson County’s tax assessor and a citizen he allegedly threatened in his office has been turned over to Illinois Appellate Prosecutor’s Special Prosecution Unit (SPU) for review.

The situation involving assessor Jeff Robinson throwing Marion resident and businesswoman Lily Abbott out of his office on June 3 drew little attention from authorities or people in positions of power until Abbott herself had to insist that she, as a taxpayer, felt threatened by Robinson’s actions.

“Claims” of corruption? How about EVIDENCE OF and no one will DO anything??

We had to laugh at the Southern Illinoisan’s coverage of Lily Abbott’s sign that now graces Illinois Route 13 through Marion, wherein they state that Abbot’s sign was “claims of city and county corruption.”

Tax fraud, corruption in Williamson County dissected and exposed

While researching property tax records in the spring of 2013, in preparation for her appearance before the Williamson County Board of Review (protesting the non-uniform taxation of her property), Lily Abbott made a shocking discovery.

Strange deposits into city accounts pointed out at meeting; mayor, city attorney livid

MARION—Tension has been brewing behind the scenes for the Marion City Council, and the presence of media actually covering it has lent to some almost hostile city meetings as of late.
One of these took place on Monday, September 23.
It was on this night that a Marion businesswoman, Lily Abbott, took the floor

Developer pumps contaminated water into storm sewer, EPA refuses to take action

MARION – On Saturday, July 2, 2016, while most people were stocking up on charcoal and beverages and deciding whether their budget allowed for real meat or just hot dogs for the grill in anticipation of the Fourth of July holiday, Doug Bradley of Marion Heights LLC was busy draining an apparently toxic strip pit into the waters of the state.

County commissioner caught red-handed

WILLIAMSON CO. – Williamson County Commissioner Ron Ellis was caught red-handed and red-faced in February attempting to get his real estate taxes lowered by lying to the Board of Review.
