WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. – Williamson County State’s Attorney Brandon Zanotti has announced the plea and sentencing of a guy from Chicago who made the mistake of burglarizing a car at a Herrin auto repair place.

Zanotti said that yesterday, September 3, Charles L. Hebein, Jr., 62, of Chicago, pleaded guilty to Burglary, a Class 2 felony, and was sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

On June 12, 2019, a Herrin police officer was called out to Pursell’s Auto Shop on a report of a car break-in. Surveillance footage from the auto shop depicted a man matching Hebein’s appearance break into a car at the shop and steal items from it. A search around town led the officer to Hebein, who admitted to the offense.

Hebein has a criminal history, including several burglary convictions out of Cook County.

State’s Attorney Brandon Zanotti would like to commend the Herrin Police Department on their great investigative work in this case.
