MARION CO., Ill. – A motorcycle accident claimed the life of a Salem man earlier today, reports Illinois State Police in District 12.

ISP said the single-vehicle crash occurred on Selmaville Road at Nation Road in Marion County this morning (Saturday, August 24) at 9:54 a.m.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a black Harley Davidson motorcycle being operated by Christopher Campbell, 44 of Salem, was traveling southbound on Selmaville Road at that location when he failed to reduce speed on a curve and drove off the roadway.

Campbell struck a sign before coming to rest.

Campbell was killed in the crash; a passenger, Amanda Charlton, 40 and also of Salem, was airlifted to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. There’s been no word on her current condition.
