Oilfield thefts – as mentioned in sheriff’s press release – reported

WHITE CO., Ill. – The oilfield thefts that were mentioned in White County Sheriff Doug Maier’s earlier press release are addressed in this report.

The first of two thefts was reported Wednesday, August 21, as occurring the day before.

Reports show that Don Douthitt called the sheriff’s department to advise that he had a theft from an oil lease he pumps. Douthitt reported that the theft occurred on the Mary 1 Lease belonging to Schofield Oil Company out of Evansville, Ind., located on County Road 355N in Heralds Prairie Township west of Union Ridge Church.

Douthitt told the responding deputy that he believed the suspects opened the line on the stock tank and drained 110 barrels of oil from the tank, then stole two brass valves from the handles on the tanks. The oil was contained inside the firewall surrounding the tanks. Douthitt had contacted the state about the leak; the deputy also noted in his report that the Union Ridge Church had also reported the break-in at their storage buildings for the cemetery equipment.

Then yesterday, Thursday, Aug. 22 at 10 a.m., a deputy took a theft report from Podolsky Oil of Fairfield, speaking to an employee, April Bunnage. She advised that during the nighttime hours of Wednesday into Thursday, a subject or subjects had stolen a three-inch plug valve off a load line. The incident occurred at the Bailey Unit located just north of Illinois Highway 141 in White County. She noted that the lock was also cut on their building located at the site, and the building had been entered, but nothing had been found missing.

Two suspects are in custody at the White County Jail; hit this link to read about them.
