HARRISBURG, Ill. – A two-car traffic collision yesterday in Harrisburg sent a local woman to the hospital and damaged both vehicles, one of them being driven by an Illinois State Police trooper.

ISP District 19 report that the incident occurred on Raymond Street at Webster at 4:09 p.m. yesterday, Monday, August 19.

According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, Alyssa M. Collins, 21 of Harrisburg, driving a silver 2013 Ford Fiesta, was traveling northbound on Webster Street, approaching the stop intersection at Raymond Street. With her was passenger Sierra N. Sherrod, 25, also of Harrisburg.

The unnamed District 19 Trooper, operating a 2014 white Chevrolet Caprice, was traveling westbound on Raymond Street, approaching the Webster Street intersection.

The Ford failed to stop as required and proceeded into the intersection directly in front of the Chevrolet. The District 19 Trooper was unable to avoid a collision with the Ford, impacting the passenger side of the vehicle.

Sherrod was transported by ambulance to Harrisburg Medical Center for a precautionary evaluation. Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to damage received in the
crash.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Harrisburg Police Department.

Collins was cited for Disobeying a Stop Sign, Operating a Vehicle with Expired Registration and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
