Hapless from Hamilton: Guy pulled over, jailed for pretty much every possible violation, including warrant

Kaiden Akin from a few years ago, actually visible in this mugshot

CARMI, Ill. – Carmi police made a traffic stop yesterday on a kid from Hamilton County who had the misfortune to be driving with every possible infraction going on…including a warrant for his arrest from his home county.

This occurred last night (Monday, August 19) when, at about 7:18 p.m., Carmi police made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1300 block of Oak Street due to the vehicle having only one headlight and a loud exhaust.

Subsequent to the stop they found Kaiden M. Akin, 22, of Macedonia, behind the wheel of the 1997 Honda.

During the stop, it was found that the vehicle registration was suspended, Akin’s driver’s license was suspended, he didn’t have proof of insurance….and he had an active Hamilton County warrant for his arrest, issued in late June. Said warrant apparently stems from a 2015 conviction of two counts: one of Burglary (one a Class 3 felony) and under the same cause, Residential Burglary (a Class 1 felony). Apparently he’s not paid much in his outstanding fines and fees since being released from IDOC, and still owes $912.23 in that cause.

Things got considerably worse for Akin, though, when an inventory of his vehicle turned up two open beer cans on the floorboard, along with a small plastic baggie with a powdery residue that later tested positive for meth.

Kaiden Akin’s new mugshot. To be fair, this might accurately represent his condition, considering the arresting charges

Young Mr. Akin was toted off to the city/county jail, where he didn’t hold very still for his mugshot, but is being held after being issued all the traffic citations (Improper Lighting-One Headlamp), Operation of Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Operation of Vehicle when Registration is Suspended, Driving While License Suspended, Illegal Transportation/Possession of Alcohol, along with the felony violations of Possession of Meth and Unlawful Use of Property (the vehicle, ostensibly in the commission of a meth crime).

He remained in lockup as of this morning.
