K9 Roy aided in the apprehension of one of the subjects

WABASH CO., Ill. - A joint effort of warrant services between the Wabash County Sheriff's Department and Mt. Carmel Police resulted in arrests earlier today...but not after the first subject lead police on a short-lived foot chase.

Wabash County Sheriff Derek Morgan said that earlier today (Thursday, July 18) at approximately 1:51 p.m., officers from the Mt.Carmel Police Department and the Wabash County Sheriff's Office went to 11600 E. 1020 Ln. to serve felony arrest warrants.

As law enforcement attempted to make contact at the door of the residence, Robert E. Harms, 37 of Mt. Carmel, fled the area. Harms was wanted on two Wabash County felony warrants and a No-Bond Felony warrant out of Gibson County, Indiana. Harms was apprehended by K9 Roy after a short foot pursuit through backyards and over a fence.

Harms has been charged with:

  • Possession of Meth over 15 grams but less than 100 grams (Class 1 Felony)
  • 3 counts of Burglary (for items found at the residence) (each a Class 3 felony)
  • Possession of Meth Manufacturing Material (Class 2 felony)

Also charged in the incident:
Melanie M. Christie, 38 of Mt. Carmel:

  • Possession of Meth less than 5 grams (Class 3 felony)
  • Possession of Meth Manufacturing Material

Ryan Healy, 43 of Mt. Carmel:

  • Possession of Meth Manufacturing Material

The investigation continues and more charges are anticipated in this case.

Sheriff Morgan said that methamphetamine continues to be an issue that creates numerous other issues within Wabash County. Today's joint effort between the Sheriff's Office and Police Department, he said, demonstrates a common goal of serving our community and protecting its property.
