WHITE CO., Ill. — The death of a Crossville man has been preliminarily ruled to be from natural causes.

According to White County Sheriff Doug Maier, county dispatch received a call at 10:17 a.m. Tuesday, July 7 of “a dead person at a residence located at 106 North Elliot St.,” in Crossville.

Sheriff Maier said that when deputies arrived on scene they found Charles Crane, Jr., 75, laying on the couch in the living room of the residence.

White County Ambulance arrived on scene at about the same time as the deputies and found Mr. Crane “obviously deceased.”

The county coroner was notified and arrived on scene, as well.

The Illinois State Police Crime Scene personnel were requested to come to the residence before the body was moved.

“No sign of foul play was evident,” Sheriff Maier said. “The death appears to be from natural causes. The investigation is ongoing.”
