Two sentenced in Edwards County court activity this week

EDWARDS CO., Ill. - Edwards County State's Attorney Eric St. Ledger has announced the sentencing of two individuals in his county this week.

The first was Ashley Murphy, 29, of Grayville.

Murphy was sentenced yesterday (Thursday, June 20, 2019) to a total of three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a term of one year of parole in her 2018 case. St. Ledger said that Murphy previously admitted to violating her probation on a Class 3 felony of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine in this case.

Edwards County State’s Attorney Eric A. St Ledger prosecuted the case on behalf of the People of the State of Illinois and public defender Brian Shinkle represented the defendant, Ashley Murphy. The original case was investigated by the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department.

The next was Freddie L. Swift, Jr.

Freddie Swift

Swift, 41, was also sentenced yesterday to a total of 7 years and 6 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a term of 2 years of parole.

Swift was previously found guilty on May 15 by an Edwards County jury of committing Unlawful Possession of Weapon by a Felon (a Class 2 felony). Edwards County State’s Attorney Eric A. St Ledger prosecuted the case on behalf of the People of the State of Illinois and public defender Brian Shinkle represented the defendant, Freddie L. Swift, Jr. The case was investigated by the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department.
