WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - The Williamson County Joint Emergency Telephone System Board (WCJETSB) would like to announce the relocation of the 911 Administrative office from Herrin to Marion.

The former location at 300 N. Park Ave. has been vacated and moved to the Marion Police Department at 1001 W. DeYoung St. in Marion. The 911 Administrative office is responsible for the addressing of parcels, property and structures within Williamson County, securing hardware and software for the 911 answering points (PSAPs) and providing monetary support to the PSAPs for training and certifications.

This move to Marion was spurred by the retirement of Longtime 911 Coordinator Ken Smith, who was pivotal to the establishment of 911 in the area. He was the driving force behind the Counties of Southern Illinois (CS) group being formed that brought Next Generation 911 to the area. That project was so successful that the state legislature has mandated that it be expanded statewide by 2025.

Hired to fill the vacancy created by Smith's retirement was D.J. Stewart. Stewart was an Emergency Services Dispatcher and Dispatch Supervisor for the Marion Police Department who helped coordinate the consolidation of 911 services. Stewart has almost 20 years of Emergency Services Dispatching experience and says he "looks forward to the challenge of this new position and continued service to the citizens of Williamson County.

The new contact number for the 911 Administrative office is 618-997-7541 or wcjetsb911@gmail.com. As always, if you have an emergency, know your location and dial 911.
