MASSAC/SALINE COs., Ill. - A teen from Saline County is in custody in Massac County following an investigation into a burglary and firearms theft back in October.

The Massac County Sheriff's Office reports that Corey Atkison, 19 of Galatia in Saline County, was arrested earlier this month (May 8) following questioning about a burglary and weapons theft that took place at a location noted only as the 2000 block of Mt. Pleasant Road in Massac County.

Official reports indicate that there were four firearms - a Ruger 9mm, a Smith & Wesson 40-cal. pistol, a New England 410-guage shotgun and a Winchester 20-gauge shotgun - from the residence, this occurring October 3, 2018.

Atkison was questioned in April after being located in Brookport; on May 8 he was arrested and charged with Class 1 felony count of Residential Burglary, and Class 3 felony Theft more than $500 but less than $10,000 (actual value of the guns was not listed). Interestingly, none of the weapons have been recovered, indicating that it's highly possible they've already been fenced and their whereabouts may never be known.

However, Massac authorities have put out a call for information regarding the crime, and are encouraging the public to call in tips to the sheriff's office at 618-524-2912 or contact them through the TIPS page, which can be found at the hotlink.

Atkison is currently being held at the Massac County detention center, and is set for a prelim on June 10.
