WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - Williamson County State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti has announced sentencing of a Carbondale man who found trouble in Williamson in 2017.

Zanotti said that yesterday (Thursday, May 16, 2019), Anthony C. Thompson, 42, of Carbondale, pled guilty to Residential Burglary, a Class 1 felony, and Theft, a Class 3 felony. Thompson was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (DOC) for the Burglary charge, and three years in DOC on the Theft charge. The sentences are ordered to run concurrently.

On October 22, 2017, Herrin police officers responded to a reported burglary on Tyler Street in Herrin. Their investigation led them to Thompson, who was charged with the burglary the following day.

On January 15, 2019, Marion police officers conducted an investigation into a stolen vehicle that was reported earlier in the day. They found the vehicle, and their investigation, through witness accounts, led them to Thompson. Thompson was then charged with the theft of the vehicle.

Thompson has an extensive criminal history, with prior felonies in Williamson, Franklin and Jackson counties.

Thompson will be on two years of mandatory supervised release (parole) following his release from DOC. “I want to thank both the Marion and Herrin Police Departments for their excellent investigative work that led to the apprehension of Thompson,” Zanotti said.
