EFFINGHAM CO., Ill. - An early-morning single-vehicle accident on Interstate 57 today is being attributed to the speed of the vehicle, according to Illinois State Police.

ISP advise that the wreck occurred at 3:55 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, April 17. on I-57 northbound at milepost 152 in Effingham County.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a white Freightliner pulling a white Wabash semi-trailer, being operated by Harjit Singh Mall, 40, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, was traveling northbound on 57.

ISP said the vehicle left the roadway to the east, then overturned onto its passenger side.

Mall was transported to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital via Abbott Ambulance. He was later cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Improper Lane Usage.
