FAYETTE CO., Ill. - Illinois State Police are stating that ice on the roadway caused an accident earlier today on Interstate 70 in Fayette County.

ISP said the accident occurred at 7:30 a.m. this morning, Sunday, February 10.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer being driven by James A. Schumacher, 56 of Teutopolis, was westbound of I-70 at milepost 67.5, just west of the Brownstown exit, at that time. With him were Karen Schumacher, 58; Jon Westendorf, 30, and Jolleen Westendorf, 26, all of them also of Teutopolis.

Schumacher lost control of the Chevy due to the icy road, and traveled into the center median, which caused the vehicle to overturn onto its top.

James Schumacher was transported by Rural Med to Fayette County Hospital with unspecified injuries.

No citations have been issued.
