Hardin County Sheriff’s Department releases warning about…ahem…certain kinds of phone pics

Posted by on Monday, October 1st, 2018 @ 10:45 pm.

HARDIN CO., Ill. - We know we are solidly in the new millennium if the sheriff of one of Illinois' smallest counties is having to issue a warning about cell phone photos certain males seem dead set on sending people of their...certain body parts, all of it revolving around a scam on Facebook.

But that's exactly where we are, and so here we go.

Hardin County Sheriff JT Fricker placed a warning on his department's Facebook page earlier Monday, October 1; here it is in its entirety:

Citizens are becoming targets of a Facebook scam. A female/male subject adds males/females to her/his Facebook and then begins to chat with them. During the conversation, pictures of strong sexual content are exchanged. The subject immediately demands the male/female send them a large amount of money via Western Union or she/he will post the pictures of the male/female online. There is a very easy way to prevent becoming a victim of this scam, DO NOT SEND PICTURES OF YOURSELF TO ANYONE! Another way to avoid this is do not accept friends request from people you don’t know. Parents, please advise your children of this, older teenagers and young adults have also been targeted.

Why anyone in this day and age would still send nudes of themselves or their body parts is absolutely beyond all of us here...but that it has devolved into a PHONE SCAM involving MONEY now, so...dang. Just...stop with the porn pics, k, peeps?
