Posted by on Thursday, September 27th, 2018 @ 2:34 pm.

HARDIN CO., Ill. - Hardin County Sheriff JT Fricker has announced a phone scam that's going on in his county.

In an announcement on the HCSD's Facebook page, Fricker said that citizens are receiving phone calls advising them that their family member has been arrested.

The caller says the subject needs to go to the bank and wire money to a their location in order for the family member to bond.

The caller knows the name of the victim and the name of the family member who is allegedly under arrest.

Although it may seem believable, IT IS A SCAM!

Please report any of these scam calls to authorities.

There is another scam happening where they call promising a refund. You call the number, Pakistani claims it’s for Geek Squad, tries to get you to do something on your computer. I told them I don’t have a computer and the dude hung up on me. (855)305-2010 is the number to call if you like harassing scammers. While they are talking to you they aren’t tricking someone else out of their money.

    • Hey….that’s good information! Thanks for posting, Gail. These people are coming up with new ways to scam us every time we turn around. It’s almost worth going back to a landline…I’m getting to where I HATE cell phones….
