MT. VERNON, Ill. - Members of law enforcement from all over the state gathered in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Thursday, August 9, to hear Phil Chalmers, homicide trainer, true crime writer and television personality, give a riveting presentation.

The subject “Why Teens Kill" is an in-depth presentation complete with real crime scene photos. Chalmers is an expert, having interviewed and corresponded with several murderers and serial killers - including school shooters.

He told of the behaviors of the homicidal trends as well as the yearly trends of the 80s, 90s and 2000s, why kids kill and the ten causes, and many other topics.

He says "If you don’t put police in school, they won’t be the first responders."

Some killers, he said, admitted to listening to certain types of music and playing violent video games (I believe he said none admitted to listening to Journey.)

Various apps were mentioned, with the focus on tracking and monitoring your children without their knowledge.

He has written a book entitled Inside The Mind of a Teen Killer, as well as two others (and I am anxiously awaiting its arrival.)

Here are some pics of those at the event.

Not pictured was Creal Springs Police Officer Tony Kendrick, whom I wish to thank for recommending this course to me. I did, however, get a pic of myself with Chalmers.
