CARMI, Ill. - Literally taking meth off the streets occurred in the city of Carmi Friday, in an event that prompted multiple agency assistance...but apparently, dude is still at large.

Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter said that the incident occurred Friday afternoon (August 3) at approximately 12:30 p.m., when one of his officers initiated a traffic stop on a blue Jeep Cherokee, behind a residence on the 400 block of Seventh Street in the alley.

As the officer approached the vehicle, Harold Littlefield, 56 of Marion, exited the Jeep.

The officer reported that Littlefield was in possession of what appeared to be large quantity of methamphetamine. He attempted to secure Littlefield, who is reported to have resisted arrest and eventually jumped back into his vehicle and fled the scene.

A pursuit ensued, and eventually ended just outside Enfield at CR 1600N by 500E when officers lost sight of the suspect vehicle due to traffic and dust from the roads.

Carmi police were assisted by White County Sheriff’s Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and McLeansboro Police.

Apparently, Littlefield got away, as there’s been no follow up issued regarding the incident.

In other Carmi city police activity over the weekend, Charles E. Englebright, 53, of Fairfield, created an epic cross-county incident when late Sunday morning (Aug. 5, at 11:57 p.m.), Carmi police managed to arrest him, not on a White or Wayne County warrant, but one from far-flung Jasper County. The warrant was for Deceptive Practice there.

Englebright was able to post bond of $150 to secure his release.

And then also Sunday, Colt E. Davis, 26, of the 200 block of Sixth Street in Carmi, reported to police that there had been a theft at his place. Davis reported that $285 and some loose change was all missing from his residence.
