Small-town cafès in southern Illinois: Satisfying home-cooked food!

Posted by on Sunday, August 5th, 2018 @ 6:52 pm.

JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. - Every small town should have a local cafè that serves up great home cooking and homemade deserts...and Johnston City is notable for Andresen’s Cafe, feeding folks from all over the area.

The fried chicken and chicken and dumplings always draw a huge crowd on Thursdays. Fried chicken is the first Thursday and every other Thursday; the ones in between are chicken and dumplings and a big chicken dinner on Sunday.

Andresen's serves senior meals five days a week. The first 39 people in the door get the senior lunch for $3; Williamson County Programs on Aging subsidizes those. The rest are $4 and includes the entree, two vegetables, the featured dessert and milk, coffee or tea.

Menus are posted monthly online. They only show one of the two featured entrees. You are more than welcome to call and check the other entree.

Andresen's hours are SaturdaySunday, Monday and Tuesday from 6 a.m. til 2 p.m.Wednesday, Thursday and Friday til 8 p.m.

Great food, great atmosphere and friendly service. A special thank you to the waitress Rebecca for her assistance.
