FAYETTE CO., Ill. - A two-vehicle collision earlier today in Fayette County sent a woman from Altamont to the hospital in Effingham to be checked out, and got her a citation as well.

Illinois State Police in Effingham worked the wreck, which occurred at 12:27 p.m. today (Monday, June 11).

ISP said that the preliminary investigative details have it that a silver 2007 Chrysler Town and Country being driven by Ruth Smith, 65, of Altamont, was traveling Route 185 westbound, directly behind a white on red 1998 International truck-tractor being driven by Gary Oberlink, 73, of Brownstown.

The truck approached a maintenance road crew a quarter-mile east of County Road 2300 East, and a flagman had westbound traffic stopped.

The truck came to a complete stop, and the Chrysler failed to reduce speed and rear-ended the International.

Upon impact, the Chrysler came to a rest in the roadway.

Smith refused an ambulance and was transported in a personal vehicle to St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham for treatment. She was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
