Edgewood exit wreck sends Indiana man to hospital

EFFINGHAM CO., Ill. - An Indiana man was injured after his vehicle went off the roadway at the Edgewood exit of Interstate 57 earlier today (Monday, May 14).

Illinois State Police report that the wreck occurred at 1:56 p.m. today.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a white 2002 Chevy Malibu being driven by Michael D. Eldridge, 33, of Corunna, Ind., was southbound on 57 at milepost 145 (the Edgewood exit) when he went off the roadway to the right and the left before finally going off the road to the right and striking a tree.

After impacting the tree, the car went down an embankment and came to rest on the driver's side door in the right lane of County Road 750E, below the overpass at milepost 145.

Eldridge was taken to St. Anthony Memorial Hospital by Clark County Ambulance.

He was later cited for Improper Lane Usage.
