BAILEY DEFEATS REIS: State representative too-long-in-office ousted by newcomer

109th LEGISLATIVE DIST. - A state rep in office since 2005 has been ousted by a north Clay County board of education member.

In a commendably-clean campaign, Louisville's Darren Bailey, the school board member, ousted long-time pol David Reis of Jasper County in yesterday's Primary election. Both appeared on the Republican ballot.

Bailey defeated Reis with 9718 (56.7 7percent) ballots cast; Reis took 7399 or 43.23 percent district-wide.

Reis rode in on the coattails of former state senator John O. Jones, who had to bow out in 2013 due to redistricting, and the fact that he couldn't get enough signatures on his re-election petition for the 54th Senate District. Jones held for years the position Reis eventually attained when Jones was elected to state senate.
