Indian artifacts taken in Palestine theft

PALESTINE, Ill. - Palestine Police Chief Jeff Besing is asking the public for any information they might have regarding a theft from a location in the village.

Besing said his department is investigating a theft that occurred in the 200 block of E. LaMotte Street sometime between 6am and 6pm on Friday, March. 9th.

Besing stated that the following Indian artifacts: (1) Indian pick, (6) pieces of Indian stone axes, (2) celts, other Indian artifacts, a ziplock bag containing pottery pieces, a ziplock bag containing bones, a ziplock baggie containing a Tri-Angle Indian artifact and a War Point, Awl (bone type) and teeth were taken from this residence.

Also taken was a roll of approximately 35 feet of #1 phase black coated wire on a spool stolen from the garage along with a good pair of jumper cables.

Anyone having information concerning this theft is being asked to call the Crawford County Crimestoppers at 1-888-596-7867.
