MARION, Ill. - Doug Patton was sworn in last night (Monday, February 12) as the new Marion city councilman to replace Monte Blue.

Patton was next in line as the most qualified to hold that position, which he had held from 2011 to 2015, losing the 2015 election by less than 60 votes.

He is filling out the term vacated upon the appointment of Anthony Rinella to mayor; he replaces Monte Blue, who had recently had to resign.

Blue also held a replacement seat: that of Larry Hughes, who passed away in June of 2017  and who was on the board of the Housing Authority of the City Of Marion. Blue had given that up when he was voted in as councilman and Jim Phemister was chosen to replace him.

Patton said last night that he is excited to be back on the council and loves the city and people of Marion.
