Monte Blue

MARION, Ill. - Marion has a new city councilman after a meeting called last night for the purposes of making the selection.

The position came open when former councilman Anthony Rinella was appointed to fill the unexpired term of former Marion mayor Bob Butler.

Folks interested in the position were asked to submit their names, then they would be allowed 5 minutes for a presentation to the city council to give their qualifications and background. Five gentlemen put in their names and appeared last night (Monday, February 5). The candidates were asked to leave while each individual candidate addressed the council; then each councilman had the opportunity to ask each candidate questions. Everything, however, was conducted in an open meeting.

Following the questioning, Monte Blue won with two of the three votes; Jim Webb and John Goss voted for Blue, while Angelo Hightower voted for Doug Patton. Mayor Rinella did not vote.

Blue will be sworn in Thursday afternoon.
