FAYETTE CO., Ill. - Interstate 70 running through Fayette County has had more than its share of accidents lately, with the latest one occurring early this morning.

Illinois State Police said the accident happened on I-70 eastbound at milepost 69, approximately 6 miles east of Vandalia, at 12:25 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, December 6.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a blue 2013 Freightliner Cascadia being driven by Gary M. Dixon, 60, of Detroit, Michigan, was traveling eastbound in the right lane on I-70.

At approximately milepost 69, Dixon's rig struck the rear of the trailer of a white 2011 Freightliner Cascadia being driven by Kidane Feriew, 57, of McKinney, Texas.

Dixon's truck came to rest in the right lane, whereas Feriew's came to rest on the right shoulder.

Both drivers were transported to Fayette County Hospital.

It doesn't appear there have been any citations issued in the collision.
