Anthony Rinella, Marion mayor pro tem...with what will likely be the ever-present Butler in the background

MARION, Ill. - The area's way-too-long-in-office mayor has taken a month-long vacation prior to officially 'retiring' from office due to health concerns.

Mayor Bob Butler is the one in question. On Monday, Mayor pro tem Anthony Rinella is acting in his absence and will be officially sworn in February 1, 2018, when Butler's retirement begins.

Rinella is a council member, and according to the structure on this council, he's the one who ascends if the mayor is out for any reason. The council will have 30 more days to replace Rinella's vacant seat.

Rinella makes the appointment as mayor, then the council will have to approve and vote on his recommendation.

Rinella says he will keep regular hours in case anyone has any questions they may need answered.

As regards the portrait in the background of the photo here extolling and underscoring the level of Butler-worship involved in living in Marion, Rinella says he plans to place the picture of the mayor in the chambers.
