Carmi police arrest two folks allegedly driving suspended

CARMI, Ill. - Driving around without a license doesn't appear to be that big of a deal to some people, but the law says otherwise, and when a person is caught doing such a thing repeatedly, it generally means a trip to the county lockup...as two found out.

Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter reports that two traffic stops were made, one last night (Tuesday, December 5), the other very early this morning (Wednesday, Dec. 6), both of them involving driving suspended.

Ashley Bebout

The first came about at 9:15 p.m. last night, when Ashley M. Bebout, 27, of Carmi, was stopped in the 300 block of Fackney Street. Bebout had only just been arrested for other counts a couple of weeks ago (which you can read about here) in White County and this arrest just adds more counts to her mounting record: Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) and Operating Uninsured.

She was able to post bond at the scene; how she left the scene wasn't outlined in reports.

Roger L. Conner

The second DWLS came about at 12:12 a.m. this morning, when Roger L. Conner, 26, of Norris City, was pulled over on Plum at Main Street in a 1996 Chevy Silverado.

Authorities say there was no rear registration plate light as well as a tail light violation as regards why Conner was pulled over, but once documents were inspected, it was discovered he had a suspended driver's license...and an active White County warrant for Failure to Appear on Operating Uninsured Vehicle.

Conner, unlike Bebout, was toted off to the county jail, where he was later able to post bond to secure his release.
