CARMI, Ill. - After a rowdy weekend in Carmi, officers had a very low-key Monday to start off the week...and that involved only one arrest.

Carmi police report that a Failure to Appear (FTA) warrant was served following a traffic stop in town last night, Monday, November 13.

James E. Belka, 26, of an address on the 900 block of Fackney Street in Carmi, was arrested by Carmi police after an officer observed him in the passenger seat of a white Dodge truck yesterday afternoon at about 3:38 p.m.

The vehicle was pulled over in the vicinity of the American Legion and Belka was taken into custody on a White County warrant in a 2016 case in which Belka had been sentenced to two years probation on Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Criminal Trespass misdemeanors. A Felony Possession of Meth charge had been dismissed in that case, but reinstatement on that count could be effected under the circumstances.

Belka was apparently able to post bond for his release. There has been no upcoming court date set as yet.
