CARMI, Ill. - In reviewing the police reports submitted from this past week's end, really, there's nothing more to say about it other than to describe it as "crazy"...so let's jump right in.

It started out Thursday, November 9, when at 2:19 p.m., a Kentucky man was taken into custody on a warrant out of that state after a traffic stop.

Nicholas Page

Nicholas Dalton Page, 20, showing an address on North Locust Street in Carmi, was stopped at that time on Oak and 10th at S&E Auto.

While local records don't show what the Kentucky warrant was for, Page and his peach fuzz were housed in the county jail, where he's awaiting extradition according to jail and police reports.

Next up was a woman who was arrested on a warrant literally a few minutes after Page's stop.

Ashley Bebout

That's Ashley Bebout, 26, who was wanted on a White County felony warrant that covers three counts: Class 2 felony Burglary, Class 4 felony Unlawful Possession of a Credit or Debit Card, and Class 4 felony Theft over $500.

Bebout was viewed walking in the yard at 133 11th Street at 2:23 p.m. Thursday, and took off running but stopped (to her credit) after an officer ordered her to do so.

She was arrested on the warrant and was found to be in possession of an alleged cannabis pipe. She was taken into custody and housed at the county jail pending release on bond.

Russell A. Wardrip

On Friday, Nov. 10, the action began very early in the morning, when at 2:45 a.m., a Wayne County man was taken into custody.

Russell A. Wardrip, 37, of North Laurel in Fairfield, was the subject of a domestic violence call at the Carmi Dam on the Little Wabash. An Amanda Scott, 31, also of the same Fairfield address, was the reported victim.

Wardrip was arrested on Domestic Battery and Criminal Damage to Property counts after a 911 call was made. Reports don't indicate what kind of property was damaged; however, Wardrip remains in White County lockup on the arresting charges until bond can be posted.

Josette St. John

On Friday afternoon at approximately 5:15, authorities traveled to an apartment on the 400 block of Second Street in Carmi to serve a misdemeanor warrant regarding Criminal Trespass to Land, which was filed on October 26.

The smug-looking Josette St. John, 23, of that aforementioned address in Carmi, was taken in without incident.

She was also able to post bond and go on her way, which involves a December 12 first appearance...which, if she doesn't show up for, will result in another warrant. On that day, she'll also face felony charges of Unlawful Possession of a Credit or Debit Card and Theft over $500 dating back to July 1 of this year.

Jordan Dotson

Apparently everyone behaved on Saturday; because reports jump over to yesterday (Sunday, Nov. 12) when, at 10:42 a.m. when most decent people are in church, Jordan M. Dotson, 20, of Illinois Street in Carmi, was not...and was apparently raising enough heck to get arrested and charged.

In an incident that wasn't detailed in police reports, Dotson was arrested on multiple charges at that time, including felony Criminal Trespass to Residence, misdemeanor Battery, Assault and Disorderly Conduct, and two civil counts involving weed (which perhaps he should've smoked prior to the incident, as it likely would have calmed him down and precluded ALL charges): Possession of Cannabis less than 10 grams, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Apparently Dotson was able to post bond, or someone posted on his behalf, because as of this post he was not in the county jail.

Starlett Dunn, none the worse for wear after allegedly swilling beer in Huck's bathroom with her sister....

And finally the pièce de resistance, which occurred last night (Nov. 12) at shortly after 6 p.m. and over which many are still shaking, either their heads in disbelief or with laughter over the ridiculousness of it.

Police reports show that an employee flagged down a passing officer at the Huck's store on Oak Street in Carmi at that time, and stated that two females, later identified as Starlett R. Dunn French, 34, of Fairfield, and her sister Serena J. Dunn Short, no age or address given, were caught drinking beer inside the restroom.

Where they got the beer they were drinking wasn't indicated, but police advised that the employee also alleged Starlett had two more 24-ounce cans in her coat pockets when confronted

After a brief interview, Carmi Police arrested Ms. Starlett for Retail Theft. She was transported to the county jail and booked for retail theft, where she remained today pending posting of bond. There was no indication of the status of her sister.

Bottom line: Be kind to your city police officers there in Carmi. They go through a lot, and this four-day report proves it.
