MT. CARMEL, Ill. – The Mt. Carmel Police report shows that there was a LOT going on Friday, November 10…including a gal found passed out in her car at a green light.

It started, however, when Mt. Carmel Police yesterday arrested Shawn P. Smith, 21, of Mt. Carmel, on a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Smith was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by MCPD Officers, and during the traffic stop it was discovered that Smith was in possession of brass knuckles. It was reported that Smith is a convicted felon and it is unlawful for him to be in possession of the brass knuckles. Smith was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held on the unlawful possession charge. Smith will be held pending the posting of bond.

Mt. Carmel Police then arrested Stacey L. Stewart, 46, of Mt. Carmel, after the arresting officer found her parked at the intersection of 9th and Oak streets in Mt. Carmel. The arresting officer reported that Stewart appeared to be passed out at a green light and appeared to be under the influence. Stewart was arrested after a failed field sobriety test. Police also located prescription pills on Stewart and in her vehicle. Stewart was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was cited for DUI-Drugs and Driving While License is Suspended and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Stewart was held pending the posting of bond.

Police arrested Tina R. Rigg, 53, of Mt. Carmel, after dispatch received a call of a reckless driver. Police located the suspect vehicle and initiated a vehicle stop after observing a traffic violation. The arresting officer reported that Rigg appeared to be under the influence and reportedly failed field sobriety testing. Rigg was subsequently arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail, where she was charged with DUI-Drugs, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Improper Lane Usage. Rigg was held pending the posting of bond.

Lastly, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Coleton E.D. Seibert, 23, of Mt. Carmel, after police were notified of a single-vehicle collision at 9th and Bainum streets. Police arrived on scene and spoke with witnesses, who stated a 2000 Dodge Neon went through the intersection of 9th and Bainum without stopping and crashed into a fixed object. The arresting officer reported that Seibert was the driver and he appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. Seibert was arrested after reportedly failing field sobriety testing. Seibert was subsequently charged with DUI-Drugs, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Disobeying a Stop Sign. A search incident to arrest resulted in police locating suspected cannabis, drug paraphernalia, firearm ammunition and brass knuckles which resulted in citations for the cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Seibert was also charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and No Valid FOID Card. Seibert was held pending the posting of bond.
