WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - A trucker from Georgia was uninjured after a wreck at the site of an earlier crash Tuesday which killed a man from O'Fallon.

Illinois State Police in District 13 said the single-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 57 northbound at milepost 50 in Williamson County at 9:10 p.m. last night, Tuesday, October 10.

ISP said that a 2016 International truck-tractor pulling an enclosed box trailer, and being operated by Vernon Williams, 43, from Powder Springs, Georgia, was traveling northbound on 57 at that time.

For reasons not listed, Williams' semi traveled off the right side of the roadway and into the trees off the interstate.

The location of the crash occurred within a construction zone, which consisted of one lane being closed at the time of the crash.

I-57 northbound was closed at that location for approximately one and a half hours until the semi could be removed. During that closure, northbound I-57 traffic was rerouted at exit 45 to Route 37/148. The semi sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

Williams, apparently uninjured, was cited for Improper Lane Usage.
