CARBONDALE, Ill. - An important presentation is being held in a week in Carbondale, and organizers are asking for the public's attention to this interesting seminar.

The Case Against War: What Americans Need to Know About Foreign Policy, will be presented by Rich Whitney on Wednesday, October 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Carbondale Township Hall, 217 E Main Street in Carbondale.

Organizers outline the presentation: The United States has been at war for 16 straight years in Afghanistan with no end in sight. In 2016, it dropped 26,171 bombs on seven countries. We have spent trillions of dollars on war, inflicting death and massive human suffering on millions of people, making the world less safe and secure in the process. Yet the media rarely pay attention, and many Americans go about their daily lives without thinking about what their government is doing in their name.

But some of us are saying that this has to stop.

In The Case Against War: What Americans Need to Know About Foreign Policy, local attorney and Green Party peace activist Rich Whitney will make the case that Americans should be outraged at how our government is conducting itself overseas. In this comprehensive review, he will explain why our acts of war are immoral, illegal, unconstitutional and unjustified. He will expose some of the lies used to justify recent wars and show the real motives behind them. He will make the case for building a revived, strong peace movement to demand an end to policies that do not serve the interests of American workers.

Sponsored by the Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois and the Shawnee Green Party.

Organizers advise that parking for the event will be off Monroe Street, and so they are asking folks to use the back entrance to Township Hall.
