Jackson County board member catches DUI over the past weekend

JACKSON CO., Ill. - A Jackson County board member caught a DUI over this past weekend.

Jose L. Mendoza, Jr., 39, of DeSoto, was cited for Driving Under the Influence following a traffic stop on Sunday, September 10.

The charge, a Class A misdemeanor, was filed yesterday (Sept. 12) in Jackson County Circuit Court.

Our information indicates that Mendoza was able to bond out Sunday morning, Sept. 10.

He also received a couple of traffic tickets, Disregarding a Stop Sign, and Driving Without Headlights, resulting from the same incident.

Mendoza was just elected to the Jackson County Board this past November as a Republican representative of District 1. The county board has been the target of much ire in Jackson, as they’re the ones responsible for overseeing the budgets of the various departments, many of those departments being responsible for screwing up things in the unresolved deaths in Carbondale (namely, Molly Young and Pravin Varughese), including the department of the county coroner, in particular, but also the state’s attorney’s office.

Whether Mendoza has even ever addressed any of these issues with the budgets of these departments is unknown.

Whatever the case, he’s set for a hearing on Sept. 28.
