Kristal McWhirter

CARMI, Ill. - A warrant arrest Monday night jailed a Carmi woman with a significant criminal history, but she’s bonded out now and is facing trouble in court on several fronts.

Carmi police chief Jason Carter reports that two of his officers, along with White County Deputy Scott Cantrell, traveled to a location on the 600 block of Stewart Street to serve a misdemeanor warrant on one Kristal S. McWhirter, 38, of that very address.

The charges under the warrant date back to August 21: Battery and Disorderly Conduct, which might explain why the extra police presence was deemed necessary.

The August charges are the fourth case to be filed against McWhirter this year, this after she came off a busy 2016, which included two OPs, six misdemeanor cases, and two felony cases, both of them involving Criminal Damage to Property. So Baby Destructo is in a considerable amount of trouble this time, but she was able to post bond, and is awaiting upcoming court hearings on the matter.

Another incident to which Carmi police responded yesterday happened last night at Murphy Gas in front of Walmart at 7:07 p.m.

There, Shawn C. Creamer, 25, of Chicago, was involved in a verbal dispute so loud that an attendant called police to report it.

When the officer arrived, it was discovered that there was a reason behind the yelling: Creamer has allegedly attempted to use a counterfeit $20 bill to purchase gas. When confronted by the clerk, Creamer argued and attempted to use a different denomination to pay for the gas.

Police say they questioned him about the bill and he "gave several different stories of where the bill came from."

Creamer was placed under arrest for felony Forgery and misdemeanor Retail Theft, transported to the jail, and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
