WHITE COUNTY: Damage to Wheeler residence reported

Posted by on Monday, August 21st, 2017 @ 6:31 pm.

WHITE CO., Ill. – Almost five years to the day after he lost his son in a horrific double homicide, a Centerville man is experiencing vandalism at his home.

Harold Wheeler Jr., 57, father of Jacob Wheeler, who died at the age of 22 in late August 2012, is the gentleman in question. Jacob Wheeler, along with a friend, Jessica Evans, then 17, were both killed while camping in rural Centerville by Danny Coston, who is now serving the next several decades in IDOC for the crimes.

The elder Wheeler had called the sheriff’s department on Saturday, August 19, in order to report damage to his property at the 1100 block of East 2210 North in Centerville.

Deputy Randy Graves responded at 1:48 p.m. Saturday afternoon and spoke with Wheeler, who had had some damage done to the property the previous weekend, too.

Graves noted in his report that the residence on the property had had four more regular size windows busted out, one large window busted out, holes knocked in the walls inside, a cellar door was kicked in, and the outer door to the residence was left open.

A water bottle left at the scene was taken for possible DNA or fingerprint evidence, and photos of the damage was taken.

If anyone has any information about this crime, please call the sheriff’s department at 618-382-5321.
