MARION, Ill. - A special event held at Miners Stadium in Marion last night was a big hit with all involved.

The event was the second annual "Stand up for Blue" law enforcement appreciation night, and during this one (Wednesday, August 10), fifty percent of ticket sales were going to the James Brockmeyer Memorial Fund.

Brockmeyer was the Chester police officer who was shot and killed on duty January 1, 2016. He had been a police officer for only 10 months.

At the event night, the stadium personnel pass out placards for attendees to write the name of an officer her or she supports, as shown above.

The first 1,500 people through the gate received a "Stand up for the Blue" T-shirts.

Law enforcement officers from all over the area were represented at the event, and those past and present officers were recognized.

Above is former Marion police chief Ron Swafford, who retired 10 years ago last night. When chatting with our correspondent about the event, the support of our officers and the changes that have occurred in the past ten years, he said the technology that police have today at their disposal is "amazing."

Remember: Support your local law enforcement, and support your local businesses INCLUDING if you are fortunate enough to have a baseball stadium right there in town!
