GRAYVILLE, Ill. - A location in north White County that has a lot of oilfield activity has also had a lot of theft activity recently, too...and this month is no exception.

White County Sheriff Doug Maier reports this  morning that such a theft was reported yesterday (Thursday, August 10) when, at about 9:30 Thursday morning, Brent Smith of Smith Excavating of Carmi reported a theft from his equipment at a work site.

Smith said the location is the oilfield lease of Max Rhinehart #1, west of County Road 1800E, a mile north of County Road 2400N, in Gray Township.

Smith said someone had stolen numerous items from his winch truck while it was parked on the north part of the lease. He advised that he believed it occurred this past Saturday night, Aug. 5.

Smith also said that he had a previous theft from his crane when it was parked on the same lease. He stated he thought it occurred approximately two weeks ago. The suspects, he said, took flashing lights off his crane along with numerous chains and boomers, all his lifting equipment.

Anyone with info is asked to call the sheriff's department at 618-382-5321.
