CLARK COUNTY: Interstate collision sends two to hospital

CLARK CO., Ill. - Two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 outside of Casey yesterday afternoon.

Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham said the collision happened in the westbound lane at milepost 130, about a mile east of Casey, at 2:23 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, July 13.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a white 2017 International truck tractor with trailer, being driven by James M. Hash, 47, of Freetown, Indiana, was traveling westbound on I-70 at that location, as wes Eugeniu Turcu, 27, of Plymouth, Minn., in a white 2009 International truck-tractor with trailer.

Turcu slowed for a diverging maneuver off the interstate ram; Hash reportedly averted attention/vision off his driving, failing to recognize Turcu's maneuver.

Hash rear-ended Turcu's trailer, resulting in extensive damage to both units involved.

Following the collision, Hash's vehicle drove off the interstate's north side in the ditch to a final rest.

As a result of the collision, Hash was transported to an undisclosed area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Turcu was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Collision.
