WAYNE CO.: Late-night accident on I-64 sends fatigued driver to hospital

WAYNE CO., Ill. - Authorities are attributing a single-vehicle crash to fatigue on the part of the driver last night in Wayne County.

ISP in District 19 out of Carmi worked the crash, which happened in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Wayne about a quarter-mile east of milepost 115 at 10:52 last night (Wednesday, July 12).

According to the preliminary investigation, James R. Mitchell, 43, of Lexington, Kentucky, was eastbound in a white 2014 Dodge van, when he fell asleep.

The Dodge exited the roadway into the median and struck and embankment.

Mitchell was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in the crash.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Fairfield Rural Fire Department and Wayne County Ambulance Service.

ISP said that any charges that might be issued are pending at this time
