GALLATIN COUNTY: Medical emergency cause of vehicle crash on Route 142

GALLATIN CO., Ill. - An Indiana man was taken to a local hospital Thursday after he crashed his vehicle due to a medical condition he suffered while driving.

Illinois State Police said the accident occurred at 4:38 p.m. yesterday (June 15) on Illinois Route 142 in Gallatin County, about 500 feet north of Long Lane Road.

At that time, Ronnie L. Thompson, 52, of Mt. Vernon, Ind., was traveling southeast on 142 at the stated location in a blue 2003 Toyota Tundra when he had a medical emergency and was unable to maintain his lane of travel.

Thompson's vehicle traveled across the northbound lane and struck the ditch on the northeast side of the roadway.

Thompson was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in the crash. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. ISP did not specify what the medical emergency was.

ISP was assisted at the crash scene by the Saline County Sheriff's Department, Jones' Towing Service and Medforce Ambulance Service.
