William Patton

SALINE CO., Ill. - A man from Shawneetown is headed off to the Illinois Department of Corrections following sentencing today in Saline County Circuit Court.

Saline County State's Attorney Jayson Clark said that William A. Patton, 38, of Shawneetown, entered pleas of guilty today to a Class 2 felony charge of Possession of a Stolen or Converted Vehicle and a Class 2 felony charge of Unlawful Possession of Weapon by a Felon. Judge Walden E. Morris sentenced Patton to a total of 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, with 3 years of mandatory supervised release (or, parole) in the two separate cases.

On October 13, 2016, the Saline County State's Attorney's Office filed charges against Patton arising out of an incident in which it was alleged that Patton unlawfully possessed a stolen 1999 Chevrolet Corvette. Then on March 1, 2017, the Saline County State's Attorney's Office filed additional charges against Patton arising out of a separate incident where he was caught unlawfully possessing a shotgun after having been previously convicted of a forcible felony. Because Patton had been convicted of multiple prior felony offenses, he was sentenced as a Class X offender on each charge.

The investigation of Patton's cases was led by Officer Jerod Gott of the Eldorado Police Department and Deputy Chuck Welge of the Saline County Sheriff's Department. State's Attorney Jayson Clark handled the successful prosecution of the cases.
