EFFINGHAM CO., Ill. - A man from Connecticut and a truck driver from Breese were involved in a two-vehicle accident this morning not far from Altamont in Effingham County.
Illinois State Police in District 12 said the accident occurred on Interstate 70 in the eastbound lane, two miles west of Altamont at about 6:30 a.m. this morning, April 19, 2017.
Preliminary investigative details indicate a white 2008 BMW sport utility vehicle being driven by Fernando Soto, 45, of Hartford, Conn., was traveling eastbound on I-70 two miles west of Altamont passing a white 2013 International truck being operated by Dennis Heulsmann, 63, of Breese when it crossed the center line.
Soto’s vehicle struck Heulsmann’s in the front driver’s side steer tire.
Soto’s vehicle came to a stop on the south side shoulder. Huelsmann’s exited the south side of the roadway, striking the ditch and rolling over, coming to rest sitting upright on its wheels.
Huelsmann and a passenger in the truck, Eric Becker, 25 of Breese, were transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham.
Soto was cited for Improper lane usage.
