SOUTHERN ILLINOIS - The two Illinois State Police Districts we report on regularly - Districts 12 in Effingham and 19 in Carmi - have released their activity reports for the month of March 2017.
For Effingham, Illinois State Police District 12 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt, today said Troopers in District 12, which includes Clark, Clay, Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Lawrence, Marion, and Richland counties, answered 186 calls for service and initiated 1,728 incidents in the field.
In addition, enforcement figures totaled 884 citations and 856 written warnings, including 473 speeding citations, 8 DUIs, 99 seat belt citations, 1 child restraint citations, 270 written warnings for speeding, and 37 criminal arrests. Troopers also assisted 152 motorists, conducted 357 Motor Carrier Inspections, and investigated 57 traffic crashes.
There were 2 fatal traffic crash investigated by District 12 in March.
During the month, 450 citations and 327 written warnings were issued for "Fatal Four" violations. These violations are most associated with fatal traffic crashes and include Speeding, DUI, Failure to Wear a Seat Belt, and Distracted Driving.
In District 19 Carmi, which includes Wabash, Edwards, Wayne, White, Hamilton, Saline, and Gallatin counties, recorded 1,528 incidents during the month.
Enforcement activity consisted of 649 citations and 902 written warnings, including 293 speeding citations, 15 DUIs, 123 occupant restraint citations, 25 criminal citations, and 359 written warnings for speeding. Troopers also assisted 57 motorists, conducted 224 Motor Carrier Safety Inspections, and investigated 20 traffic crashes.
There were no fatal traffic crashes investigated by District 19 during March.
Moreover, 467 citations and 462 written warnings were issued for “Fatal Four” violations.
