WAYNE COUNTY: Rinard teen injured in collision with Kenworth semi tractor-trailerPosted by Jack Howser on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 @ 10:29 pm.
WAYNE CO., Ill. - Illinois State Police worked a traffic crash between two vehicles - a Pontiac Grand Am and a semi - that sent a 17-year-old to Clay County Hospital this evening.
ISP said the crash occurred at 4:26 p.m. today (Tuesday, January 24) on Wayne County Road 1100E at CR 2200 North.
The white 2000 Pontiac Grand Am was being driven by the 17-year-old male, from Rinard; he was southbound on CR 1100 East beginning to turn left onto CR 2200N.
The white 1998 Kenworth semi tractor-trailer was behind the teen's Grand Am; it was being driven by Gregory L. Stover, 53, of Albion.
ISP said the semi was traveling too fast for conditions and couldn't reduce speed in time to avoid a rear-end collision with the Grand Am. The Grand Am was pushed off the west side of CR 1100E, where it came to rest directly across from CR 2200N. The semi came to rest just south of the intersection on the right side of the roadway.
North Wayne Ambulance Service responded and the teen driver was taken to Clay County Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Stover wasn't injured and refused medical treatment at the scene.
Stover was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash.
