SAILOR SPRINGS HAS A FEST THIS SATURDAY
SAILOR SPRINGS, Ill. - Did you know that Sailor Springs has started having an annual fest?
We didn't either, until we were delivering papers to Edgewood Tuesday and saw a flyer for it.
But, they are. And it's this Saturday, the 25th. They call it the Sailor Springs June Blast, and it's in its second year. It's an event sponsored by the Sailor Springs of Life Church, the Sailor Springs Historical Foundation, and the Sailor Springs American Legion.
The day's schedule looks like this:
Sailor Springs Historical Foundation Breakfast, served from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in the Foundation Building; the Old Grade School will be open for tours from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Classic Cars and Antique Tractors will be on display from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; a Kid’s Extravaganza will be going on from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a maze, blow-ups, and more; the Parade starts at 2:00 p.m.; and that's followed by the catfish meal, which will be served from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the American Legion.
There will also be numerous vendors set up, and lots of food; a whole day’s worth of fun in this cool little village.
If you've never been to Sailor Springs, you need to go just to say you've been there. The history of the place is neat; you can read about it at this blog (cached only; it wouldn't open up for either one of us). I took the kids there when they were small on one of our outings after we got back from Germany nearly two decades ago. We actually went to three or four locations there in the village where you can hear the springs running not far underground; Jack & I have had a couple of opportunities to go check it out since, but have never SEEN the springs, so I'm not sure if they bubble up like they do at Bell Smith considerably south. Nevertheless, springs are, to us, uber neat. What forces water to come up from underground? That's the cool part.
We're very much behind these municipalities and villages having their own fests, and we believe they should be promoted and attended; it increases local economies (even something the size of Sailor Springs!) So we hope to see you there.
Any vendor who would like to setup a booth, at no charge, contact Tony at 618-689-1068, or Inez at 618-676-1699.
