GRAND RIVERS, Kentucky--A Kentucky state trooper was killed last night after losing control of his cruiser on a U.S. highway near Grand Rivers on the western side of the state.

Kentucky State Police advised today that the accident that took the life of new trooper Eric K. Chrisman, 23, happened right before 6 p.m. yesterday, June 23, 2015.

Chrisman was reportedly responding to a complaint of reckless driving on that highway when, at about two miles west of Grand Rivers, he failed to negotiate a cure and his cruiser crossed into the eastbound lane of the highway. That put him in the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer, being driven by Richard A. Burnham Jr., 53, of Benton, Kentucky. The truck struck the driver's side of the state police cruiser.

Chrisman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston County Coroner.

Burnham was injured and was taken to Marshall County Hospital, treated and released.

Chrisman had just graduated from the Kentucky State Police Academy this year.

The highway was closed for several hours while KSP was working accident reconstruction.
