FRANKLIN CO., Ill.---Authorities in Franklin County saw some action over the weekend when they had the opportunity to help Michigan law enforcement apprehend a homicide suspect.

And it wasn't just any homicide suspect...it was a triple homicide suspect.

Kenneth Brunke, of Manistique, Michigan, became a person of interest in a situation that emerged April 17 when Michigan State Police found a burned-out vehicle with three bodies inside.

Michigan authorities developed leads that put Brunke in the category of "person of interest"...and that put him in the West Frankfort area of southern Illinois as well.

Michigan state police contacted West Frankfort police, and the investigation was on. West Frankfort officials found Brunke's vehicle at a West Frankfort home on Friday, April 24, and they kept surveillance on the place while Michigan worked on arrest warrants.

Michigan authorities made their way down to West Frankfort over the weekend (Sunday, April 26), and on that day, with the help of West Frankfort police, Michigan officers took Brunke into custody.

As of yesterday Brunke was being held at Franklin County Jail without bond, pending transport back to Michigan, where he's facing three counts of homicide.

What the connection was that Brunke had to Franklin County remained unaddressed by Franklin authorities as of last night.
