Phone video captures an electrical fireball travelling down power lines outside a man's house in a Canada suburb

A huge electrical fireball is seen knocking out power lines in Montreal, Canada, in a shocking mobile phone video.

The footage shows a ball of sparks and flames zipping down power cables in Lachine, a borough in the south-west of Montreal.

The phenomenon occurred late on Friday, moments after a heavy storm ripped through the town, with winds of up to 100kph reported through the night.

The storm wreaked havoc with the region's electricity supply, with more than 350,000 people thought to have lost power.

This morning, Hydro-Quebec, who provide the region's electricity, tweeted an update saying that at 6am local time, power had been restored for 95% of customers had - but that 16,000 customers still remained without power.

The video has gone round the internet almost as fast as as the fireball zipped down the power lines - clocking up one million views over the weekend.
