COLES CO.—Former Charleston police officer David N. Iwaniw, 33, of 619 11th St., Charleston has been charged with multiple sex offenses.

Iwaniw is charged with two counts of Criminal Sexual Assault, the first alleging that on or about February 19 he held a position of authority, a Charleston police officer, over the 17-year-old victim, when he by use of force committed an act of sexual penetration in that he placed his penis in the vagina of the teen victim.

The second count alleges the same physical act without the verbiage concerning the position of authority.

He is also charged with one count of Child Pornography alleging that on the same day he had the girl appear in a video-recorded sex act, described in the formal charges as intercourse with him, that took place in his Charleston home.

Early reports indicate that Iwaniw forced the girl to say she was 18 years old and the sex was consensual.

Official documents indicate that at one point Iwaniw threatened to hunt down his victim if she told anyone about the sexual assault.

According to Illinois State Police investigators, Iwaniw was taken into custody without incident.

City records indicate that Iwaniw was hired in May of 2006.

While published reports say Iwaniw is free after posting $15,000 cash bond, there is nothing in official documentation indicating such a thing.

There are also published reports that he resigned as a Charleston police officer shortly after he was arrested.

Special prosecutor Lorinda M. Lamken has been tapped to handle the state’s case.

COLES CO.— A North Carolina man is facing a pair of felonies after authorities responded to a report of gunplay in Charleston.

COLES CO.— A North Carolina man is facing a pair of felonies after authorities responded to a report of gunplay in Charleston.

According to court documents, on December 28, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. officer Brian Hissong was dispatched to 784 Tenth St., in reference to a criminal damage report.

Upon arrival officer Hissong spoke with Kelly Rice, 51, who said at approximately 2 a.m. she heard what sounded like a gunshot outside her residence but dismissed it after she didn’t hear anything else.

She said when she came outside at 8 a.m. later that morning she noticed someone had fired a bullet through the passenger window of her Cadillac Escalade, which was parked on the street.

Officer Hisson and Detective Tony West searched the interior of the vehicle and located a bullet inside one of the seats.

Hissong said he spoke with Daysha Evans, 21, of 903 Cleveland St., Charleston at about 2:15 later that day and she said that she was at 1028 Ninth St. at approximately 1 a.m. that morning when a fight started outside the residence between Matthew Folsom, 23 (of 3928 Rockybrook Place, Lenoir, North Carolina) and Nathaniel Talley.

A Roger Cunningham is also said to have been present.

Gun in the face

Evans said that Andrew Cooper, 24, of 1028 Ninth St.; Garrett Buell, 23, of 1930 Twelfth St. and William Standefer, 23, of 1140 Edgar Dr., #6, all of Charleston went outside to break up the fight.

She said she saw Folsom pull a revolver and point it at her and the three men.

Evens said she saw him pull the trigger several times in an attempt to shoot the weapon but the gun never fired.

She said she left the scene a short time later with Buell.

Hissong spoke with Cooper at Pagliai’s Pizza and was told pretty much the same story.

When he later spoke with Sandefer when he and the others got outside they saw Folsom repeatedly punching Talley in the face.

He said as he and the others were trying to break up the fight they were pushing Talley away from Folsom when he felt something up against the back of his head and when he turned around Folsom had the handgun pointed at his head.

Sandefer said Folsom was waving the gun around ordering everybody to get on the ground.

Sandefer said he left the scene on foot.

Cunningham clarifies

When officer Hissong tracked down Roger Cunningham the next day, Jan. 29, at 9:21 p.m. Cunningham told him that he had been at the Uptown Bar in Charleston with Folsom and that they left shortly after midnight.

He said as they approached Tenth St. and Harrison Ave. Folsom pulled a black revolver from his pants and fired a round into a vehicle parked on the side of the street and they took off running.

Cunningham said when they arrived at their destination Talley started a fight with Folsom for no apparent reason and in the course of the physical confrontation several individuals showed up to stop the fight.

He said he never actually saw Folsom pull a handgun much less point one at anybody, but said that that would explain why everything stopped all of a sudden.

Fiancé

Cunningham gave Hissong directions to Folsom’s fiancé’s residence at 722 Twenty-Second St.

Hissong and officer Justin Carder arrived at the residence and although Folsom denied owning a gun and stated he had done nothing wrong took him into custody.

The fiancé, identified as Elizabeth Bircher, told officers that Folsom owned a black Taurus Judge handgun which Hissong realized chambered a .45 caliber Long Colt.

She then said that the gun was more than likely inside Folsom’s silver Chevrolet Silverado truck.

That’s about the time said truck was towed to the Charleston City Garage pending the issuance of a search warrant.

After Bircher gave officers consent to search the room in her residence where Folsom had been staying, officers located three .45 Caliber Long Colt shell casings inside a duffle bag.

Folsom was booked on one count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Criminal Damage to Property over $500, Aggravated Assault and Unlawful Use of Weapons.

Ultimately, however, Folsom was only charged with Reckless Discharge and Property Damage.

Folsom was released from custody January 2 after a $5,000 cash bond was issued on his behalf by his fiancé.

Chokes girlfriend, bonded out by Olney woman

In an unrelated case of violence, on Jan. 9, deputy David Lewis responded to 17298 East County Road 1400 North, Lot #5 on a report of Domestic Battery.

Upon arrival deputy Lewis spoke with Daniel Leroy Hayes, 25, who was standing in front of the garage of the residence.

Hayes told Lewis that he had been in an argument with his girlfriend and she had told him to get out of the house, explaining she didn’t have to leave because she had a child and that she would call the cops and have him sent to jail.

After a routine check in such matters, Hayes was actually taken into custody on an unrelated outstanding warrant.

Once he was secure in the police cruiser, Lewis spoke with Danielle N. Fleming inside the trailer at Lot 6.

Fleming said she and Hayes had been arguing about her son and other issues when he suddenly threw a cup of soda at her and grabbed her by the neck, shoved her against the wall and pressed against her neck choking her.

Fleming said as Hayes was choking her he put a hand over her mouth and said, “stop breathing.”

When he let go she said she went to the neighbors at Lot 5 to report the attack.

Deputy Lewis noted in his report that he observed on the right side of Ms. Fleming’s neck a red mark and two small scratches just below her collarbone.

Hayes was charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery.

He was released from custody after $1,000 cash bond was posted on his behalf by Katherina Whitlow of 205 North Lincoln, Olney.

COLES CO.—Authorities say charges against a Charleston man, already in custody, were added to after it was discovered the man had crammed a bag of dope up his rectum.

According to police reports, on Sunday January 6 at approximately 7:25 p.m. Charleston police officer Joel Shute was eastbound in the 1000 block of Lincoln Ave. when he spotted a black Jeep tailgating an SUV and going too fast for the distance between vehicles before it executed a haphazard lane change.

Then officer Shute watched as the Jeep tailgated every vehicle it got behind before turning northbound on 18th St.

Shute, now having followed the Jeep to Harrison Ave. and losing sight of it as it darted through alleyways, was stopped by a pedestrian who informed him the Jeep had turned back north on 20th St. and “floored it.”

That was about the time dispatch got back with officer Shute and informed him the registration of the Jeep came back to an Adam C. Ayers, 22, of 2029 Van Buren Ave., Charleston.

Dispatch also informed Shute that Mr. Ayers’ driver’s license had been suspended.

When Shute arrived at the address he was met at the door by Michele D. Ayers.

“When I asked her who just came in the house she said, ‘Adam, hold on’,” Shute said.

Seconds later Adam C. Ayers was brought to the front porch of the home and officer Shute asked him if he had been driving.

Ayers said no and that was about the time Shute noticed that Mr. Ayers was breathing heavy, appeared to have a dry mouth and that his pupils did not seem constricted in the porch light.

“I detected a very strong odor of cannabis,” Shute said.

Officer Heath Thornton arrived on scene and Ayers, who had a good rapport with Thornton, told him that he had been smoking cannabis and then drove home from his job at Charleston Coca Cola Sales & Distribution located at 1321 Loxa Rd., Charleston.

Ayers told Thornton that his license had been revoked but that he had a restricted driving permit.

That permit, which would have expired Jan. 26, was seized and forwarded to the Coles County Circuit Clerk subsequent to charges being filed again the stoned Mr. Ayers.

While searching the Jeep, officers found a small brown bag containing a bottle of opened and half empty Canadian Deluxe Whiskey.

Once at the Charleston Police Department Mr. Ayers refused to submit to either a breath test or a urine test. After his rights were read to him he refused to answer any questions.

Shute finished processing Mr. Ayers and asked him if he had any contraband on his person and explained that it would be a felony to attempt to sneak anything into the jail.

Later that evening officer Shute was contacted by jail officials.

“They stated that upon a body search of Ayers, they discovered a plastic baggie containing approximately 12 grams of suspected cannabis, which he lodged in his anus,” Shute said.

Adam Clarence Ayers was formally charged with Following Too Close, Improper Lane Usage, Fleeing a Peace Officer, Failure to Stop Emerging from an Alley, Driving Under the Influence (3rd), Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis 10-30 grams and Bringing Contraband into a Penal Institution.

Ayers has a pair of DUI convictions and was just sentenced to two years court supervision in August of 2012 after being convicted of Unlawful Manufacture/Delivery of Cannabis 2.5-10 grams.

Ayers was released from custody Jan. 7 after a $1,000 cash bond was posted on his behalf by Michele Ayers.

Heroin

In an unrelated drug case, Judd Benson, 24, of Charleston has been charged with a single count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance identified as 15 grams of heroin.

There is no indication that Mr. Benson’s alleged stash was located in any of his orifices.

Cash bond in the case has been set at $2,500.

COLES CO.—A Charleston police officer is reported to have been injured after struggling to take what appeared to be a drunk angry man into custody.

According to court documents, January 17, at 12:25 a.m. Charleston police officer Justin Carder responded to a call in an area east of the 500 block of North Division St. near a baseball field.

The call was in reference to someone picking fights and throwing beer bottles against a residence located at 505 North Division #18.

Upon his arrival Carder was notified by dispatch the subject was by the ball field’s bathroom.

“As I was walking from the north I could hear a subject yelling,” Carder said. “I walked around the corner and saw the subject leaning against the side of the bathroom and when he saw me he asked, ‘What the f^*k do you want?’”

Officer Carder asked the man what he was doing and he started laughing and began walking toward Carder and was unsteady on his feet.

When officer Carder asked him to identify himself he said “No” and began walking away.

Carder reached out and took the man, later identified as Justin D. Paxson, 24, of 505 North Division #52, Charleston, by his wrist and Paxson attempted to jerk his arm away.

“I told him to stop resisting,” Carder said, but Paxson allegedly attempted to pull away from the officer.

As Carder grabbed Paxson and took him to the ground Paxson fell causing Carder to land on his back with Paxson on top of him.

“I continued telling him to stop resisting,” Carder said.

That’s when officer Carder rolled over and broke off contact with Paxson.

“I stood up and noticed I injured my left ankle and was unable to put weight on it,” Carder said.

Paxson only stopped struggling when officer Carder pointed his TASER at him.

Officer Tom Boles arrived on scene and assisted taking Paxson into custody.

Officer Carder made his way over to 505 # 18 and spoke with residents Donya Fulk, 27, and Donald Fulk, 28.

Donya told Carder that she had heard someone outside their residence yelling profanities.

She said she heard something bounce off their residence and when she looked out the window she saw a white male throwing beer bottles.

She said she watched him until she saw officer Carder make contact with him near the ball field bathroom.

Donald Fulk said after his wife told him there was someone outside their residence yelling that he went outside and saw the white male yelling and throwing beer bottles.

Mr. Fulk said he told Paxson to come over so he could be “knocked out.”

Fulk said he stayed where he was and did not approach Paxson, just waited for police to arrive.

Paxson was booked on one count each of Disorderly Conduct, Resisting a Peace Officer and Aggravated Battery of a Police Officer.

However, the only formal charge filed was for Resisting.

Paxson was released from custody Jan. 25, after a $600 cash bond was posted on his behalf by Morgan Paxson of 401 East Edgar St., Apt. 4, Paris.

COLES CO.—An early Sunday morning investigation of a reported smell of cannabis has landed one man behind bars.

According to court documents, officer Ryan Risinger with the Eastern Illinois University Police Department responded January 20 at 2:24 a.m. to 280 Grant Hall, Room 112 located on the campus of Eastern Illinois University, Charleston.

Upon arrival, officer Risinger made contact with residents Theo Darjovan Bradley, 19, originally of 1842 East Marmion St., Kankakee and a Kassius S. Bass.

“I asked Bass if I could search his personal area of the room,” Risinger said.

Bass did not give consent.

When officer Risinger asked Bradley if he could search his personal area of the room, he did give consent.

In Bradley’s personal area, officer Risinger found a silver grinder containing purported cannabis particles and a plastic baggie containing three individual wrapped baggies of purported cannabis.

The combined weight of the three bags was 12.2 grams.

That’s about the time Bradley was taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Manufacture or Delivery of Cannabis 10-30 grams.

At the jail, Bradley was searched again and that’s about the time he told one of the officers he had counterfeit currency in his wallet.

When officers checked they found ten $20 dollar bills.

Bradley told officers “some Mexicans” at a bar at the “U of I” gave him the money to buy drinks for them. He said the bartender told him the money was fake and that he would not take it as payment.

And that’s about the time Mr. Bradley was charged with felony Forgery.

Bradley was released from custody the same day after a $500 cash bond was posted on his behalf by Nicole King of 1842 East Marmion St., Kankakee.

COLES CO.—An 18-year-old Mattoon teen faces the possibility of 3-7 years in prison if convicted on the Burglary count he has been charged with following a December 29, 2012 incident.

COLES CO.—An 18-year-old Mattoon teen faces the possibility of 3-7 years in prison if convicted on the Burglary count he has been charged with following a December 29, 2012 incident.

It appears the judge in the case is willing to grant the young man one more chance.

At 10:28 p.m. Mattoon officer Steven Bridges responded to 1512 Richmond Ave., Mattoon in response to a call from Cynthia Stewart, 56, who reported that her neighbor had entered her residence through a kitchen window.

Dispatch advised the officer they could hear the suspect in the background asking Ms. Stewart not to call police.

When he arrived officer Bridges met Stewart, who told him the subject seated on her sofa, Zachary T. Shoot, had invited her to his residence where he then left her, saying that there was a friend he needed to talk to downstairs.

She said she left and when she got home found Shoot climbing through the kitchen window.

Shoot’s hands appeared to be covered in blood.

Stewart told Bridges that other items had been taken from her home in the past and she now suspected Shoot of taking them.

After gaining consent, when Sgt. Jason Cobb searched Shoot’s apartment he found an empty bottle of liquid hydrocodone/acetaminophen with the name removed from the prescription, an empty bottle belonging to Ms. Stewart for diazepam 5 mg, an empty bottle of tramadol 50 mg with the name removed and a broken glass pipe with burnt tar residue that smell of cannabis.

Shoot was booked on charges of Residential Burglary, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He was only formally charged with one count of Burglary.

Mother asks for leniency

In a letter dated Jan. 16, Shoot’s mother asked the court to give her son, convicted in October 2012 of Property Damage, another chance.

“I love my son with all my heart and do not want to see him in trouble anymore,” said Dee M. Golden.

Ms. Golden said that her son is “not a totally bad 18 year old kid” and that he can be saved from the terrible cycle of crime and prison.

“Zach needs treatment, guidance and help getting started on the right track. He is very confused & does not know what to do, where to go for any type of help, guidance or coaching in life,” Golden said. “Zach basically doesn’t know who to turn to or what direction to go.”

It is unknown if Golden’s letter had much sway with the judge in the case, but, Shoot was released on his own recognizance for treatment.

It appears the young man has that chance his mother was hoping for.

However, the judge did say that if Shoot violates any treatment requirements or leaves treatment that the court orders, he will be put back behind bars and his bond raised from $1,500 to $5,000.

Boosted booze lands man behind bars

In an unrelated case, Malcolm Desmond Hill, 22, of 1119 West King St., Decatur, has been charged after authorities say on January 9, he confessed to walking into the County Market, located at 2000 Western Ave., Mattoon, at about 4:34 p.m. with intent to steal a bottle of booze.

An employee spotted what Hill had done and followed him until Mattoon police captain Adam Weinstock arrived and located the hidden bottle.

Approximately 15 minutes later, after being advised of his rights he confessed that he went into the market, made his selection and concealed the bottle in the sleeve of his jacket and left the store without making any attempt to pay for the hidden booze.

Mr. Hill has a previous conviction for Burglary, which elevated what would have been a misdemeanor charge of Theft to a felony.

The unemployed, unmarried father of two was booked into the county jail on $750 cash bond.

Official reports indicate that on December 12 at 9:16 p.m. officers of the Charleston Police Department were dispatched to the West Locust address and when they arrived found two victims Matthew Price, 24, and Renee L. Strohl, 23, with lacerations to their throats.

Strohl was found holding a towel to her throat to slow the bleeding while Price was pacing holding his hand to his neck.

Ms. Strohl told officers that she and Price had been attacked by Blackie M. Veach, 21, of 1400 Jackson 6D, Charleston.

The Charleston Fire Department transported Price to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and Strohl was rushed by the fire department directly to Carle Hospital in Urbana due to the severity of her injuries.

Caught minutes later

Eleven minutes later, lawmen located Veach near Sixth Street and Jefferson Ave. and took him into custody.

As officer Justin Carder was transporting Veach he noticed blood on Veach’s face and hands.

Sometime later officer Brian Guinnee spoke with Matthew Price at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Price said that Veach had been at his and Strohl’s home for about three hours.

He said he and Strohl were sitting on a love seat with Veach behind them.

Price said Veach asked him, ”You got my back?” to which Price said he responded, “yes.”

He said that’s when Veach said, “No you don’t” and grabbed him by the forehead, pulled his head back and cut his throat.

Price said he fell to the ground and when he looked over he saw Veach on top of Strohl cutting her throat.

Price said he yelled for someone to call 911 and Veach yelled “NO!”

Witness

Eyewitness Johnny Price was at the residence visiting Matthew Price at the time.

Johnny Price told Detective James Blagg that Matthew Price and Strohl had been sitting on a love seat listening to music with Veach sitting behind them.

He told Det. Blagg that Veach became agitated and pulled a knife out of his pocket and cut Matthew Price’s throat.

He described the knife as having a straight blade and was not a folding knife.

He said Matthew fell to the floor and Veach was on top of Renee Strohl and he cut her throat.

He said he pushed Veach off Strohl and when Veach got up he came after him.

Johnny Price said he managed to get away.

Veach has been charged with four counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, two counts of Aggravated Battery causing Great Bodily Harm and two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.

He pled not guilty to all charges Dec. 31, 2012.

Veach was arrested in October 2012 and charged with one count of Aggravated Assault/Use of Deadly Weapon/Rifle and Resisting a Peace Officer.

That case had not made its way through the court system at the time of his most recent arrest.

Veach had just finished up a 300 day jail sentence stemming from a 2011 conviction for Battery which was pled down from Aggravated Battery/Weapon/Air Rifle.

A status and bond hearing was scheduled for January 14.

According to official reports, on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012 Lieutenant Richard Heuerman and officer Don Munro were dispatched to 2813 Commercial Ave., Mattoon in reference to a report that a man was intoxicated and refusing to leave a residence.

Upon arrival Munro began speaking with Frank A. Jones, 28, who refused to identify himself and began arguing with first Munro and then Heuerman when he arrived.

The ex-girlfriend who made the call, identified as, 36-year-old Erin T. Scott, told Heuerman that Jones was her ex-boyfriend who had been staying with her for the past week.

She said when she came home she found that Jones had “trashed” her place and said she believed that he was drunk and had taken illegal substances.

That’s about the time she told Jones she wanted him to leave.

At first Jones wouldn’t leave but gave in and started walking away saying he would be back later to get his property.

Lt. Heuerman told Jones he needed to contact the Mattoon Police Department for a civil escort, so there wasn’t any further trouble, to retrieve his belongings.

That’s about the time Jones told Heuerman that he didn’t have to do “sh*t” that he told him and started back in the house saying he wanted his property right then.

At Lt. Heuerman’s behest, Ms. Scott gathered a box of DVD movies and a Playstation game system and sat them out on the porch next to Mr. Jones.

And that’s about the time Mr. Jones said, “f*ck it, I don’t want this sh*t!”

Jones then proceeded to pick up the box containing his property and toss it back into the residence hitting Ms. Scott in the legs and hip and scattering the contents on the floor of the living room.

Mr. Jones then tried to take off toward the backyard when Lt. Heuerman told him to hang on a minute.

“F*ck that, take off that badge and I’ll kick your *ss!” Jones yelled.

When Lt. Heuerman walked to where Jones was and took his arm to place him in custody, Jones jerked away and took a swing with his fist at Lt. Heuerman’s head.

A foot chase then ensued with Munro and Lt. Heuerman on his heels.

Other officers joined the pursuit and at one point officer JD McCain spotted Jones in the 2500 block of Charleston Ave. and told him to stop.

Jones took off north and was finally brought down in an alleyway where he continued to struggle for some time until officers could get him in handcuffs.

Mr. J was booked into the county detention center on one count each of Threatening a Public Official and Domestic Battery.

Jones is a convicted felon from 2009 after being found guilty of Burglary for which he was sentenced to two years probation, 180 days in the county jail and ordered to pay $886 in fines and fees of which he still owes $736.

He is currently being held on $2,000 cash bond.

COLES CO.— An Oakland man with three prior DUIs, two pending DUIs, three prior Driving Revoked and one pending Driving Revoked has been arrested again.

According to information filed in the case, on Wednesday, November 28, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Charelston police officer Ryan Feder was on routine patrol when he spotted Jason Michael Duzan, 33, of 119 West Montgomery, Oakland, driving a blue Ford Escape in the area of Fifth and Olive streets.

Officer Feder knew Duzan’s license to be revoked and executed a traffic stop at the intersection of Olive and Ninth streets.

Duzan was taken into custody without incident and booked into the county jail on $300 cash bond.

It remains to be seen if authorities have any avenue at their disposal which would keep the serial drunk out from behind the wheel of a car.

Charged with threatening to kill family

A 2004 doper/arson felon has been charged with one count of Harassment by Telephone.

According to court documents, on or about December 1, 2012, Forrest E. Sanders, 54, of 312 Dewitt Ave., Mattoon, called the number of Greggory Letner and threatened to kill Mr. Letner and his family and burn down their business and home.

Sanders was convicted in 2005 of Aid/Abet/Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Arson to Personal Property, Calculated Criminal Drug Conspiracy, Unlawful Possession of 100-400 grams of Methamphetamine.

He was sentenced January 7, 2005 to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and ordered to pay $5,806.93 of which he still owes $2,737.93.

Sanders was released from custody pending his next court appearance after a $300 cash bond was posted on his behalf by Monica K. Lee of 2397 County Road 1350 North, Casey.

Dopers charged with stolen mini van

A pair of convicted dopers, one back on the streets after serving an 18-month prison sentence for manufacturing/delivering cannabis, and the other still on probation from a meth conviction, have been busted for being in possession of a stolen minivan.

According to information filed in the case Jared James Wilson, 25, of Mattoon and Chelsea Lynch, 25, of 1221 Vine St., Charleston, have been charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Stolen vehicle after authorities say on Nov. 8, 2012 they were in possession of a blue Dodge Caravan knowing it to be stolen.

Wilson is also charged with one count of Theft after authorities say on or about Dec. 21 he took United States currency, not over $500, from Shannon Shroyer of Mattoon.

Wilson was housed in the county jail on $1,500 cash bond while Lynch, an unemployed mother of one, was booked on $1,000 cash bond.

Ms. Lynch was also serving a two-year court supervision sentence after a conviction for Retail Theft in February 2012.

Homey charged with heroin

Kendall Homey Wilford, 22, of 609 Oklahoma Ave., has been charged with one count of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance after authorities say on or about Nov. 20 he knowingly delivered one gram of a substance containing heroin.

K. Homey was housed in the county jail on $5,000 cash bond.

Charleston defense attorney Ronald Tulin has announced his intention to defend K. Homey Wilford, who is not exactly a stranger to the inside of a courtroom or a jail cell.

K. Homey was convicted in 2009 of Theft and sentenced to 200 days in jail and ordered to pay $203 in fines and fees of which he still owes $103.

Two years later K. Homey was convicted of Burglary and sentenced in June 2012 to drug treatment, one year of probation and ordered to pay $6,715 in fines and fees of which he still owes $5,715.

Charged with lying about ID

A man with a pair of pending DUI charges from last year and a revoked license doesn’t seem to be getting the message.

According to police reports, Wilson R. Hatten, 26, of 1005 Illinois Ave., Windsor, has been charged with one count of Obstructing Identification after police say on or about Nov. 24, he furnished a fictitious name and date of birth to Mattoon Police Officer Donald Sweeney when he said he was Brenton P. Gossard, born May 16, 1984. Hatten is also charged with a single count of Felony Driving While License Suspended/Revoked after police say he was stopped the same day on North 14th St., Mattoon operating a motor vehicle.

Hatten was released from custody Nov. 26 after a $500 cash bond was posted on his behalf by Sonya Knollenberg, of 555 County Road 1000North, Neoga.
